BMW Husqvarna Motorsport factory rider Simo Kirssi opened his season strongly at past weekend´s Bassella Race in Catalunya. The Finn powered his BMW 450 X to second place, finishing the gruelling two-hour moto 1:36 minutes behind eventual winner Aaron Bernardez.
The Bassella Race, formerly known as Toni Soler Memorial, has become a fixture in their pre-season programme for many riders. The tradtional event is held over a 50-kilometer course at the foot of the Pyrenees.

BMW factory rider Simo Kirssi has successfully defended his title. The Finn celebrated a convincing and emotional win at the European Cross Country final at Marisfeld, to add yet another championship to his tally.
The Cross Country series stepped into new territory in order to determine the 2009 European champion. Riders from seven countries gathered at the perfectly prepared location in Thuringia and were met with difficult conditions due to ongoing rain. The whole six-kilometer track turned into a quagmire.

The German Cross Country Championship (GCC) saw an utmost dramatic final at Schefflenz. Reigning title holder Simo Kirssi (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) owned the race from the word go, but in the end the championship went to Kornel Nemeth. Kirssi had to retire with a break at the steering head and lost his title despite earning as many series points as his Hungarian rival.
Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport had arrived at the GCC final under a positive sign.

BMW factory rider Simo Kirssi keeps leading the German Cross Country Championship after finishing runner-up at Sunday´s round six held in Muehlhausen. The defending champ, who competed with a painful wrist injury, salvaged valuable points as he took the chequered flag 23 seconds behind arch rival Kornel Nemeth.
The Finn enjoyed a brilliant first half of the gruelling two-hour moto. Powering his BMW 450 X in fourth place through turn one, Kirssi soon passed Nemeth and Antoine Letellier, to take command of the race.

BMW factory rider Simo Kirssi took an important win on Sunday during round five of the German Cross Country Championship (GCC) held under perfect conditions at Goldbach. The defending champ dominated the race in front of 5,000 fans, giving him a solid lead in the series standings.
The Le Mans-style start procedure saw Kirssi get away decently, behind GCC regulars Bert Meyer and Andi Boller. The Finn soon passed the leading duo, but found a new opponent in Antoine Letellier.
