Husqvarna and Simo Kirssi part company

The reigning European Cross Country champion Simo Kirssi and Husqvarna Motorcycles have jointly agreed to part company, effective from 10. May 2011. Simo Kirssi has been competing in the American Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series for Team Fred Andrews Racing, aboard a Husqvarna. "We'd like to thank Simo Kirssi for his commitment. Unfortunately we had separate expectations, which didn't quite match," says Martino Bianchi, Husqvarna Motorcycle's Race Co-ordinator. "We've made a mutual decision to part company," adds Kirssi. "I will take a break from motorcycle racing for a couple of months and then start looking into opportunities for next season."

GNCC Big Buck '11

Hello everyone, I’m four rounds into my first full GNCC campaign. Past weekend we raced the Pirelli Big Buck GNCC in Union, South Carolina. As I’ve decided to rent a house in Greenville, it was sort of a home race, just 50 km from where I live. The preparation between rounds three and four was going good. I worked at my endurance, general fitness and put some decent hours in on the bike. Overall, I felt pretty happy. Especially as I worked a lot on the GNCC-specific start procedure. Out of 20 ...

GNCC Steele Creek '11

Simo Kirssi keeps improving his race results in the American GNCC offroad series. The Finn aboard his factory Husqvarna ends round three 'FMF Steele Creek GNCC' at Morganton (North Carolina) in sixth place. The multi-time German and European Cross Country champ, who is completing his first full season in the U.S., is adapting well to his new field of activity. The tracks on the east coast, where GNCC racing is traditionally based, are pretty different from what the 31-year-old has ...

Roof of Africa '10

Extreme Enduro specialist Andreas Lettenbichler and Cross Country ace Simo Kirssi carried the banner for Team BMW Husqvarna Motorsport during the 43rd Roof of Africa, held past week in the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. The race is known to be one of the gnarliest extreme events in the world. It certainly lived up to its reputation once again. While Simo competed for the first time as an additional season ender, Lettenbichler entered the African legend with some serious ...

Simo Kirssi ended his BMW supremacy with one more title after winning the European Cross Country Championship at Rudolstadt, Germany. The Finn, riding for Team BMW Husqvarna Motorsport, defended his crown with a dominant race win - his last ever aboard the BMW G 450 X. Kirssi altogether won 16 of those 24 cross country races he officially entered since 2008. The 31-year old took two German and three European titles during that period, presenting an unrivalled ...

GCC Final Schefflenz '10

Simo Kirssi has ended the German Cross Country Championship in style. The BMW factory rider owned the final race held in Schefflenz from start to finish. The wonderful Schefflenz track, a long-time mainstay in the German offroad scene, offered splendid conditions and lots of real cross country elements. The win for the fifth time this year went to a dominant Kirssi, who had clinched the title already at the penultimate round and might have taken it easy. But being the ...

GCC Mühlhausen '10

Simo Kirssi has earned title honours in this year´s German Cross Country Championship with one round to go. The 30-year old Team BMW Husqvarna Motorsport rider sealed yet another series win with a third place at Mühlhausen. But it didn´t come without drama. A severe thunderstorm crossed the "Airtime Area" one third into Sunday afternoon´s pro race, turning the perfectly prepared track into a mud pool within minutes.
Simo Kirssi showed once again he´s the man to beat in the German Cross Country Championship. The BMW factory rider completely owned series round five held at the beautiful Goldbach circuit. In front of 5,000 spectators Kirssi posted yet another impressive start-finish victory aboard his BMW 450 X, as his fiercest competition came from fellow countryman Samuli Aro through the early stages of the two-hour moto. Following five consecutive wins in Cross Country races across Europe, 30-year-old Kirssi used the new Extreme Enduro competition to determine his abilities in such events and as a preparation for the Roof of Africa in November. Following his average start to the campaign four weeks ago, the Finn responded at Walldorf with a convincing win. Kirssi wasted no time on the deep Thuringia soil and immediately made clear who would be in command. Kirssi opened a decent gap on the first lap ...

Held on a difficult and fast track, almost 400 riders provided a record number of entries. Kirssi, who carried number sixteen, didn´t have the best start position. The Finn had decided rather late to take part as a training measure for the German Cross Country series and therefore had to begin from the back of the pack.
